Imagine if you had access to all your health records. If you could call up the name of a medication you’re allergic to, simply with the click of a button. If you could book your next GP visit online, in the middle of the night?

ManageMyHealth™ offers you all of that and more. You may have heard of it, but read on to find out exactly how ManageMyHealth™, in conjunction with the Wellington Medical Group, can empower you to take control of your health.

What is ManageMyHealth™?

ManageMyHealth™ is a secure website that can receive and store your health information directly from your doctor’s office. It can also store other health information about you from different sources.

An example of this would be if you visited the emergency department and received a tetanus vaccination; a note would be made on your ManageMyHealth™ record of when you had the vaccination.

It also keeps a record of information that may be useful if you are visiting a GP who isn’t your usual doctor, such as any allergies you may have.

It can be accessed from any device, anywhere in the world, provided there is internet access.

It has many other functions apart from just storing your health records. You can book appointments online through the site, you can receive health related news, you can view your lab results and you can request repeat prescriptions. Essentially, ManageMyHealth™ allows you to have your own personal online medical health record that is available to you anytime, anywhere.

Getting started

For some people, the mention of anything online or vaguely technological can send them into a cold sweat, but registering with ManageMyHealth™ is simple enough that even the most fearful technophobe can manage it. Chat with a member of our staff, and we will gladly walk you through the whole process.

What you need:

  • Proof of physical address
  • A valid email address
  • Proof that you 16 years or older

What next?

Once you have all your documentation together, speak to a member of our staff, who will assist you in getting set up. You will need an activation code from the practice, and then we will walk you through the registration process.

Once you’ve registered, you will need to activate your account and choose a password. From then on, you can access your account whenever you want to from wherever you are.

Sounds great, but how much does it cost?

Core functionality is free; however, there may be some minor costs for additional services, such as requesting repeat prescriptions or significant messages to your GP.

What exactly does my online personal health record consist of?

This will be different for each individual and will depend on your current health, your medical history and your personal preferences. Some of the information that may be available in your online health record could be:

  • Consultation notes written by your doctor during your visit (from when you sign up to ManageMyHealth™)
  • Your laboratory results (once your doctor has reviewed them)
  • Any medication that you have been prescribed, short and long term
  • Any allergies that you may have
  • Immunisations that you may have had and when you had them
  • Your medical history and any conditions that you have been diagnosed with

How does ManageMyHealth™ benefit me?

Using ManageMyHealth™ can streamline your healthcare and make it more efficient. Having all your health information on a single platform makes it easier for you to keep track of your health history and goals. It also allows continuity of care when you see different health professionals. This is especially useful if you are ever in the situation of having to see a doctor in another country.

Having all your health data in a single, easily accessible place allows you to access it in emergency situations, such as a visit to the emergency department, when your usual GP may not be available to answer questions like what medication you are on or what procedures you’ve had done.

On a purely practical level, having access to ManageMyHealth™ saves you time and money. You can easily book appointments online via the platform as well as request repeat prescriptions for chronic medication. There is the possibility of doing video consultations with one of our doctors when you are unable to physically get to our practice. It’s also really easy for you to check your lab results yourself.

ManageMyHealth™ is fully integrated into the existing systems that the Wellington Medical Group use, so if you are an existing patient at one of our practices, it’s easy for you to make a smooth transition to ManageMyHealth™. If you are a new patient to one of our practices (Johnsonville Medical Centre or Thorndon Medical Centre), we will help you to register on ManageMyHealth™ and get you started using it from the get-go.

How safe is my personal and health data?

This is a common and not unreasonable concern. Rest assured that ManageMyHealth™ has committed never to sell your personal data to any third parties.

ManageMyHealth™ is hosted in a secure environment in New Zealand. All sensitive information is protected by encryption.

ManageMyHealth™ maintains a comprehensive access log every time you or an authorised registered health professional accesses your ManageMyHealth™ health record. You can check this access history anytime, and it is never deleted. This means that you know at all times who has looked at your medical records and information.

What happens if I want to change my doctor?

If you’re already registered on ManageMyHealth™ and you’re thinking of changing over to the Wellington Medical Group, let us know and we can easily link you to our practice. This means that all your current medical records will become accessible to us.

If you aren’t already registered with ManageMyHealth™, that’s not an issue. We will simply help you register when you register with the practice.

Can I manage my children’s records through ManageMyHealth™?

We don't generally access to ManageMyHealth for children, due to the risk around privacy and consent both at the time and in the future. We may ManageMyHealth access to children's health records in very specific circumstances but it must be relating to the child's health and is at the discretion of your GP. You can book appointments for children using your own account, and authorised guardians can request their children's health records directly at any time.

The bottom line

ManageMyHealth™ is a useful, user-friendly platform that is accessible from anywhere at any time. It can save you time and money and streamline your medical experience all the way from booking your appointment to collecting your prescription. Registering with ManageMyHealth™ allows your doctor to treat you more effectively and empowers you to take control of your health journey.
