Having graduated from the University of Otago in 1982, Mark subsequently worked in the UK completing the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians' and Gynaecologists. Mark then completed the membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1995 after completing the Oxford Regional GP Training Scheme. After continuing to work in London for several more years, Mark then returned to New Zealand and joined Johnsonville Medical Centre in 1998.
