Flu immunisations are now available!
Flu immunisations are now available for everyone, whether your flu immunisation is funded or not. The timing of the flu immunisation rollout has been set nationally this year so thank you for your patience.
Approximately 150 people die from influenza in a normal year, with several hundred more hospitalised. Even without hospitalisation the flu can mean more than two weeks off work and with borders starting to open up we're expecting to see flu in New Zealand again this year. Being immunised for the flu is the quickest and easiest way to protect yourself and your family, and it minimises your chances of needing to be swabbed for COVID-19!
How do I get immunised?
This year we're running a vaccination pop-up in the Johnsonville Shopping Centre, near Countdown. We prefer booked appointments as that way you know you'll get it done at the time, but you can also drop by and see if we're able to vaccinate you then and there. Please be aware that if you have not booked there may be a wait and booked appointments take priority over walk-ins. The pop-up is currently open Monday to Friday.
If you are coming to see us at the Medical Centre we can also give you our flu vaccine at the same time. Let us know when you book in and we'll make it happen.
Are immunisations free?
For a lot of people immunisations are fully funded, regardless of whether you're enrolled with us or not. If you're pregnant or over 65 then you're automatically eligible, and you're also eligible if you have a chronic condition on this list. If you're not sure if you're eligible then give us a call on 04 920 8850 and ask to speak to a nurse.
If you're not eligible then you can still get a flu immunisation for the following costs:
Enrolled - $35
If you are enrolled with Wellington Medical Group (Johnsonville Medical Centre or Thorndon Medical Centre) then we offer a discount on flu vaccinations.
Even if you are not enrolled with us then you can still get your immunisation from our team.
What about the COVID-19 vaccine?
We're expecting to start offering the COVID-19 vaccine from early June for 65+, followed by the full rollout to everyone in July. We will be following the national vaccination programme so these may be subject to change, and we are not currently booking these appointments yet.
There needs to be at least two weeks between the flu vaccine and either your first or last COVID-19 vaccine (we don't give the flu vaccine between COVID-19 vaccines), so if you're wanting to book your COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible we recommend getting your flu vaccine now so that this is not a factor for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Can I get vaccinated at my workplace?
We also offer onsite flu vaccinations for businesses, so if your business is looking for a flu vaccination partner then send us a message via our contact page and we'll get in touch to provide a quote or to make a plan.
